Gastrofiberscopic Findings in Infants and Ghildren

Abstract
|
|
|
We observed 169 cases of pediatric patients in whom gastrofiberscopic examination was performed in Pediatric Department of Seoul Red Cross Hospital from March 1990 to December 1991. The obtained results were as followings.
1) Among age groups the 10 to 12 years old group was the most frequent in number of cases.
2) The chief complaints in order were chronic abdominal pain(53.8%), acute abdominal pain (16.6%), vomiting(10.1%), melena &/or hematemesis(5.9%), follow up study(4.1%), further evaluation of anemia, liver disease and abnormal X-ray
findings(3.6%),
foreign body removal(1.8%) and chest discomfort(1.8%).
3) Endoscopic findings in 162 cases excluding follow-up ones were gastritis(23.5%), duodenitis (17.3%), ulcers(12.3%), esophagitis(9.9%), foreign body ingestion(1.9%), esophageal varix(1.2%), gastric polyp(1.2%) and non-specific findings(30.95).
4) Endoscopic findings in patients with the chief complaint of chronic abdominal pain in order were non-specific findings(34.1%), gastritis(24.2%), duodenitis(17.6%), esophagitis(13.2%), ulcers(8.8%), gastric diverticulum(1.1%) and gastric
polyp(1.1%).
